Inspired by the perennial New York Times bestseller of the same name, What To Expect When You’re Expecting is a hilarious and heartfelt big screen comedy about five couples whose intertwined lives are turned upside down by the challenges of impending parenthood.
Over the moon about starting a family, TV fitness guru Jules and dance show star Evan find that their high-octane celebrity lives don’t stand a chance against the surprise demands of pregnancy. Baby-crazy author and advocate Wendy gets a taste of her own militant mommy advice when pregnancy hormones ravage her body; while Wendy’s husband, Gary, struggles not to be outdone by his competitive alpha-Dad, who’s expecting twins with his much younger trophy wife, Skyler. Photographer Holly is prepared to travel the globe to adopt a child, but her husband Alex isn’t so sure, and tries to quiet his panic by attending a “dudes” support group, where new fathers get to tell it like it really is. And rival food truck chefs Rosie and Marco’s surprise hook-up results in an unexpected quandary: what to do when your first child comes before your first date?
A kaleidoscopic comedy as universal as it is unpredictable, What To Expect When You’re Expecting finds humor and uplift in all the unexpected trials and triumphs of welcoming a child into the world.
The perennially perky character, who is married to a much older man (a former Nascar driver), sails through her pregnancy with twins much to the consternation of her peers.
Ramsey and his much younger wife Skyler are expecting twins. Impending fatherhood is just another way for the hilariously competitive Ramsey to try to one-up his adult son Colin, who is also expecting his first child.
My character basically breezes through her pregnancy, which is really annoying to watch. If I’m honest, it’s setting an unrealistic standard for myself and every woman out there.
Carrying around a nine-month belly; I definitely won’t forget the feeling of that. It was very interesting looking at myself pregnant.
Working with Rebel Wilson was so memorable because you’re trying so hard not to cry from laughing in a scene. The stuff she pulled out was so creative and so different.
- Murkoff’s pregnancy guide, now in its fourth edition, co-written with Sharon Mazel, was originally published in 1984, and to date has sold over 14.5 million copies. The book’s increasing popularity is noted in the feature “Knocked Up”, when character ‘Ben Stone (Seth Rogen) is seen reading the book, in Season 8 of TV sitcom “Friends”, when pregnant character ‘Rachel Green’ (Jennifer Aniston) is seen reading the book, in “Degrassi: The Next Generation” when character ‘Emma Nelson’ (Miriam McDonald) shows off a baby picture from the book, and in “Weeds”, when character ‘Nancy Botwin’ (Mary-Louise Parker) also is seen reading the book during her pregnancy.
- The movie was filmed in Atlanta this summer.
- Kristen Wiig and Matthew Morrison had been offered roles but declined due to scheduling conflicts with their TV shows “Glee” and “Saturday Night Live”.
